This week I found some really good stuff from around the web. Theology in cars,
The Old Covenant is Over. The New Testament is Authoritative - Andy Stanley recently wrote a book in which he argues that Christians should "unhitch" themselves from the Old Testament. To support his view (which is errant at best and heretical at worst), he quotes Thomas Schreiner... out of context. In this article, Schreiner responds with his characteristic nuanced theological precision.
18 Things to Pray For Your Church - "It’s comparatively easy for you and me to pray for ourselves, our families, and our friends. But how can we learn how to pray more fervently and consistently for our local churches?"
Jesus Paid It All - "The most significant moment of the evening came when we were asked about what we would say to a family of someone who had committed suicide. It was at this moment that the gospel shined the brightest."
Look for the Kindness of the Lord - "Many Christians, especially newer Christians, long for a method of discipleship that will change them quickly by just following a few clear and doable steps. I would caution you from pressing too hard for such a foolproof method."
Three Disciplines of a Happy Christian Leader - "In my study, I learned at least three methods for maintaining joy in God that Edwards practiced in his own life amid the relentless trials and strains of pastoral ministry."
Gospel vs. Religion - "Religious people are glory thieves – taking from God what is rightfully his. Even worse than resulting in personal corruption, religion spread insidiously in churches; Paul’s fiercest commands throughout his letters were always against the religious people in the church."
Cars, Coffee, and Theology - One of my professors at Southern Seminary has started a YouTube channel where he drives to get coffee with and talk theology with someone. This week was the first episode and he had Tom Schreiner on.
What is Our Standard? (The Bluestockings) - This is a new podcast aimed at encouraging and equipping ladies. I'm always excited to find theologically sound material that I can point ladies to and loved this episode. Check it out.
What is the Gospel? (Renewing Your Mind) - In an age where there is so much gospel confusion, it is good to remind ourselves of the gospel regularly. Dr. R. C. Sproul was one of the best at bringing clarity to the gospel.
The State of Theology (Theology Nights) - This show is live on Facebook every Friday evening and you can interact with Brad as he records. It is an excellent show and very thoughtful.
Expository Preaching: When You Can't Unsee the Gospel (Theocast) - How does seeing the gospel impact how we preach (and read the Bible)? I really enjoy the discussion on Theocast and this is a particularly helpful episode. The boys have been on fire lately with the last three episodes. Check them out as well.
Is Jesus God? (The Bible Project) - If you're not familiar with The Bible Project, check out their YouTube channel. They produce short videos that cover different topics or books of the Bible. This is an exceptionally helpful resource for parents in particular for discipling their children.
