Here is some stuff I found this week that is worth checking out.
Train Kills More Than 50 In India - Be in prayer for the families of those lost.
Attack Kills Afghan Leaders In Kandahar, Elections Delayed - "Thursday's attack came at the end of a meeting between top Kandahar officials and Gen. Austin "Scott" Miller, the commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, who escaped unharmed." Feds Investigate Sex Abuse In Roman Catholic Parish - "Numerous other church officials, the report found, participated in a systemic cover-up of the abuse that included shuffling priests around to other parishes and, in some cases, obstructing police investigations." New Poll Shows Country Divided - "A new poll gives a clearer picture of what that "tribalism" looks like: Americans differ not just on their ideology or political team, but on the issues they view as problems." Red Sox Move On To World Series - "'That was very, very special, absolutely,' Price said after the game. 'But we want more.' Since breaking an 88-year curse with a World Series title in 2004, Boston has added titles in 2007 and 2013, and will get another chance this year."
The State of Theology - Every 2 years, Ligonier commissions a study to see what professing evangelicals believe about various theological statements. The results are a call for the church to recover a proper theology from the Bible and for believers to make disciples. Our next show will be on this study.
The 10 Commandments for Pastors - "Be a self-forgetter and a Christ-preacher. You can never preach Him enough. Devote the best energy of your life into preaching Him biblically, doctrinally, experientially, and practically." 10 Things You Should Know About Biblical Theology - We recently did a show on Biblical Theology and went through some of the points in this article. Why You Should Take Your Children To Church (Even When It Feels Pointless) - "Children see what we do and, as my pastor reminds us regularly, they love what we love. The regular struggle to attend regular worship reinforces to our children that church is a priority." Should LDS Be Considered Christians? - "Yet today, when Christians, hopefully lovingly, share their faith with Latter-day Saints, they are often called anti-Mormon, bigots, or outright hate-filled. Why can Latter-day Saints use such language concerning historic, orthodox Christianity and not be called bigoted or hateful or anti-Christian when the same type of language cannot be used by Christians concerning Latter-day Saint beliefs without being denounced with the same modifiers?" Pornography: The New Narcotic - "But, Bennett says, 'internet pornography does more than just spike the level of dopamine in the brain for a pleasure sensation. It literally changes the physical matter within the brain so that new neurological pathways require pornographic material in order to trigger the desired reward sensation.'"
The Bar Podcast (Alistair Begg) - If you're not familiar with Truth For Life, you should be. Scottish accent? Check. Sound Biblical teaching? Check. Regularly sings or quotes songs in sermons? Check. Here is an interview with Alistair Begg.
The Gospel Coalition (Practicing the Principles of Scripture in the Home) - Michael and Melissa Kruger talk about how to apply Scripture in your home. Pastor's Talk (Cultivating a Culture of Evangelism) - Jonathan Leeman and Mark Dever discuss how leaders can cultivate an evangelism culture in the church.
